Competitions
Rehearsals are the key to our success. This is where music, drill, and guard work come together and improve throughout the season. Students are expected to attend every rehearsal and arrive early with all equipment ready so practice can begin on time.
Work schedules should be arranged around band commitments, as rehearsals and performances are mandatory. Missing a rehearsal during a performance week may mean sitting out that weekend’s show for safety reasons.
All members are expected to follow rehearsal etiquette, listen actively, and give their best effort. A strong work ethic from every student ensures the entire band can perform at its highest level.
When: Saturdays (with one Sunday) during the fall marching season. See the schedule link below for exact competition dates and locations. Gate and performance times will vary.
What to Expect: Students will travel by bus to the host school, rehearse, perform, and remain for the awards ceremony.

Marching band is more than just music — it’s a team activity that blends performance, movement, and artistry. Students work together as musicians and performers to create a show that combines sound, energy, and visual impact.
At competitions, bands are recognized for both their music and their visual performance. Judges look at the creativity and challenge of the show, as well as how well students perform it together. Every performance is a chance to show teamwork, dedication, and school pride.

We believe competition is an important part of marching band. It helps students grow in character, discipline, and musical skill, while also teaching teamwork and the importance of putting the group above themselves.
Through competitions, our students share their talents with neighboring schools and the community, building pride and support for the performing arts as a whole.

Our marching band competes in the Tournament of Bands (TOB) circuit.
Bands compete within groups based on size. We participate in Group IA, which includes bands with up to 30 musicians. (Group II includes 31–50 musicians, with larger groups continuing beyond.)

Each fall, the band prepares for three major championship events:
TOB Chapter Championships – our local regional event (South Jersey is Chapter 1), similar to a varsity team’s state finals.
NJ State Championships – where bands from across New Jersey compete. held at Barnegat High School.
Atlantic Coast Championships (ACCs) – the top level of competition. Only the 25 highest-scoring bands from 8 states qualify. Held at Hershey Park, PA
These events are the culmination of the season, where students polish and perfect their program to perform at the highest level.

Parents and families are encouraged to attend, cheer, and show their school spirit!
What to Bring: Admission fees ($10–$20), concession stand money, and lots of energy to support the band. Air Grams, candy, and shout-outs are often available for purchase.
Note: Spectators are asked not to enter or exit the stands during performances to avoid distractions.
